There are multiple brush and wild land fires burning in Nova Scotia today. A helicopter had to be called to a forest fire burning near Liverpool.
This is an appropriate time to remind Nova Scotians that there is fire ban right now in Nova Scotia. The ban prohibits open fires in woods, or within 305 metres (1,000 feet) of woods. The fire ban will remain in effect until 15 May 2020.
Some municipalities like The Halifax Regional Municipality have stricter burn bans in place. In HRM, until the ban is lifted, all forms of outdoor burning are prohibited. The ban applies at all times, in all locations regardless of the distance to the woods. The ban includes fire pits and chimeneas. Propane and/or natural gas appliances are exempt.
Illegal burning can be reported by calling 911
Thank you to the first responders who are fighting these fires. Stay safe.
