A serious food recall has been issued across Canada following an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes linked to plant-based refrigerated beverages. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has identified products from Silk and Great Value as the culprits behind this health scare. Tragically, two people have died, and 12 others have been confirmed ill, including one person in Nova Scotia.
Almond, coconut, oat and cashew beverages by Silk and Great Value with best before dates up to and including 24 OC 04 and a product code contains 7825 are affected by this recall.

Current Situation: The outbreak has resulted in 12 confirmed cases across Ontario (10), Quebec (1), and Nova Scotia (1). Nine people have been hospitalized, with illnesses reported between August 2023 and early July 2024. The affected individuals range from 37 to 89 years old, with a majority being adults over 60 and predominantly female.
National Concern: The recalled beverages have been distributed nationwide, raising concerns about potential new cases in other provinces. The illness reporting period is between 9 and 35 days, meaning more cases may emerge.
