Whether you have been itching to have a backyard fire in the city or looking to burn some brush at your cottage, you haven’t been able to burn in Nova Scotia since COVID-19 began.
The Province put the restrictions in place to prevent tying up resources to fight brush and forest fires during the pandemic. As of now the ban prohibits open fires in woods, or within 1,000 feet of woods.
The Halifax Regional Municipality has it’s own rules in place during burn bans. All forms of burning are banned, this includes fire pits and chimeneas, regardless of distance from the woods.
The bans are in affect until tomorrow, May 15 with the possibility they could be renewed. We contacted our local Lands and Forestry office for an update.
Officially, there is no update. But the kind lady on the other end of the phone implied, (in fact it was heavily suggested) that we tune into the Premier’s address on Friday for the answer.
We, along with a lot of other Nova Scotians will be glued to our television and social media for word from the Premier on Friday at 3pm as to if the ban on burning will be lifted.
