Shinimicas Fire Department in Nova Scotia’s Cumberland County – Called To Fire At Own Department

The Shinimicas District Fire Department located on Highway 6 in Nova Scotia’s Cumberland County was the scene of a large fire last night.

Initial reports said it was a vehicle fire inside the building that was upgraded to a structure fire when it spread. The fire is currently under investigation.

Other fire departments who responded were Tidnish Bridge, Truemanville, Pugwash, Oxford, Leicester, Collingwood and Amherst.

Shinimicas is about a twenty minute drive from nearby Amherst.

It would appear that all equipment at the fire department has been lost.

Sunrise this morning showed the extensive damage to the building. Monica Fisher a resident of the community said on Facebook, “So sad to see our small community Fire Department lost in a fire last night.”

On Wednesday, the Shinimicas Fire Department pulled their trucks out of the station and posted the following video on Facebook saying, “Along with our brothers and sisters across the province we stand in solidarity with those affected by the tragic events this past weekend.”
