Their first response in Canada was to the Halifax Explosion of 1917. The Salvation Army dispatched personnel from across the country and Newfoundland to assist with relief efforts which lasted months.
Today, they are responding to what has been deemed a “historic storm” and a “landmark weather event” in Atlantic Canada. They are mobilizing trained personnel to feed, hydrate, shelter and support first responders and those affected by Hurricane Fiona.
In the Halifax area, The Salvation Army provided all daily meals and additional meal supplies to all 4 pop-up emergency comfort centers.

The Salvation Army is preparing and delivering supper this evening to the expected 150 individuals and families displaced from their homes.
In Cape Breton, The Salvation Army supported the Municipal Government and prepared breakfast and lunch meals in advance of Hurricane Fiona’s fury to the Ally Centre (the Municipalities emergency pop-up shelter).
The Salvation Army’s Cape Breton Emergency Response Teams have prepared supper for the all people at the Ally Centre and will continue to provide this needed support.
The Salvation Army will continue to assist local EMO units and both municipal and provincial government relief efforts with food, hydration, and spiritual and emotional care as needed.
They say your immediate support will help meet the urgent needs of thousands of individuals and families who have been displaced from their homes due to flooding and power outages.
