Hurricane Fiona Update: Nova Scotia Has Requested Military Assistance, Power Will Be Out Days For Some

While areas of Cape Breton are still being lashed by Post-Tropical Storm Fiona, the Province and it’s partners are talking about recovery.

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston says that the Province has requested the military and disaster assistance from the Federal Government.

“This is a storm that will certainly not be forgotten anytime soon.” said Premier Houston.

Approximately 380,000 are without power in Nova Scotia. Power has been restored to 60,000 according to Peter Gregg, Nova Scotia Power’s president and CEO.

“The will be customers who see outages for multiple days,” says Gregg.

Cape Breton Regional Municipality and other areas of Cape Breton have seen some of the most extensive damage. Residents of Victoria County and CBRM are under States of Emergency. According to Nova Scotia Power.

Around 160 residents from two apartment buildings in HRM have been misplaced after the buildings sustained structural damage.

Nova Scotia RCMP have said there have been no deaths or serious injuries reported to them.
