Nova Scotia Spent Over A Half Billion Dollars At The NSLC

Our province spent a lot with the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC). In fact, we spent over a half billion dollars at locations across the province during the past fiscal year. According to their 18/19 Annual Report, we spent $662.1 million. Expect to see the 19/20 results likely in June.

Nova Scotians are making less trips to their local NSLC locations, but the dollar value of the purchase has increased in recent years.

BEER

According to the numbers from the NSLC, Nova Scotians like their beer. In fact, they like it to the tune of $275.7 million. This was a decrease of 0.9% from the previous year.

Craft Beer saw a 27.3% increase in sales to $16.7 million. The NSLC lists products from 29 local breweries, up from six just five years ago.

WINE

Nova Scotians also seem to enjoy unwinding and uncorking $142.9 million worth of wine. This is a slight decrease of 1.1% from the previous year.

Nova Scotians spent $11.7 million on local wines at NSLC locations, an increase of 2.5%

But it’s not only beer that we can’t get enough of. Spirits such as rum, vodka and whiskey saw sales of $165.7 million, no change from the previous year.

Spirits made in Nova Scotia had a great year seeing a 28.5% increase in sales for a total of $7.8 million.

This category is primarily made up of coolers and ciders. This category saw the largest jump in sales with a big bump of 19.7% for sales of $44.5 million.
