Many Canadians received the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) earlier in the pandemic. The program has since expired and Canadians must now rely on the Employment Insurance (EI) if they lose their jobs due to COVID-19.
Many are now finding themselves close contacts of positive COVID-19 cases and temporarily off work due to being an exposure.
The Federal Government has a program in place named the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB) which you can apply for and receive up to six weeks of the benefit. For the time being the program runs until May 7, 2022.
The benefit provides $500 a week, or $450 after taxes are withheld. You can apply for the benefit on the Revenue Canada’s website.
