PHOTOS: Downtown Halifax Is A Ghost Town

We took a trip downtown today to see what was going on and to be honest… not a whole heck of a bunch.  There were a few pedestrians minding their personal space and social distancing from others. Some people out and about were wearing masks.

There weren’t many vehicles on the road either. In fact, there was very little happening in traffic and the rush hour reporter on the radio had a pretty easy day. Both harbour bridges were reporting light traffic.

We snapped a few photos to share. These were all taken at rush hour, between 4:30 and 5:00pm. Normally downtown would be a bustling place at this time of day, but today it was pretty much a ghost town.

Brunswick Street

Usually a very busy street during rush hour, the scene in front of the Old Town Clock today was pretty quiet.

Lower Water Street

Lower Water Street is usually congested from one end to the other during rush hour. Today, not a soul when we snapped this shot around 4:30pm

Argyle Street

Not a soul to be seen in front of Halifax's Convention Centre or the bustling restaurant district on this street. Most of the restaurants on the street have shut their doors.

Barrington Street

Barrington Street looking north is pretty empty except a couple of parked cars.

Hollis Street (north view)

Hollis Street looking north. There is one person heading home after a lonely day at the office.

Hollis Street (south view)

Looking down Hollis Street towards the South End, not a pedestrian in sight. This street normally would have pedestrians heading home from a days work.

Granville Street

Granville Street looking towards the Granville Mall is pretty empty.

  1. due to the lack of people around downtown Halifax today made it a lot easier for truck drivers like myself to be able to get around the town to make deliveries and not have to worry about the congestion of traffic and parking!

    • I am also feeling the ease to do my job as a curiour. Not having to worry about parking or getting a ticket because I can park where I should be. With most of the city working from home I also feel safer doing my job.
