Peggy’s Cove attracted almost 700,000 tourists per year in pre-COVID days and tourists operators are hoping they will soon return. When they do, there will be a new attraction to take in at Nova Scotia’s historic and picturesque lighthouse.

The landmark’s accessible viewing deck officially opens to the public Monday, October 18. The project was initially expected to be finished in June 2021 but ran behind schedule.

The viewing deck and railings are made of wood and steel, materials that will last and are complementary to the rugged terrain. The rail guard is a steel knit pattern that resembles fishing nets. It is set into the landscape and takes the shape of the rock to avoid overshadowing the the rugged coast and lighthouse.

The area will create a public space where people can view the lighthouse and experience the waves and rocks in a way that is fully accessible and safe. Investment in the project included $1.7 million from Nova Scotia and $1.42 million from the Federal Government.
