SONG: Adam Baldwin Pens Song About Seaside FM, Wayne Harrett And Eastern Passage

From Adam Baldwin

Seaside FM is a community radio station that broadcasts out of the Eastern Passage here in Nova Scotia. It’s the life’s work of a man named Wayne Harrett. Like most community stations, Seaside is unbound by genre, era, or convention, but the special charm of this station to me lies in how the station was born. I love an underdog story, who doesn’t?

Wayne may have appeared an underdog as he was born with a condition that gave him a unique manner of speaking. As I contemplate him today, I realize Wayne was no underdog. He was armed with his dream, and his willingness to move Heaven and earth to live it. While his voice perhaps took him out of contention for conventional radio jobs, I like to think that any closed doors along his path were placed there just to lead him to his seat in the booth at 105.9 on the FM dial.

“The Voice of the Eastern Passage” is my thanks to Wayne and everyone at the station that he built from nothing. It’s my love letter to all of us who defy convention, whether it be by choice or necessity. It’s my plea to everyone to follow your heart, you never know what other underdog you’ll inspire to be heroic. I say this without hyperbole, Wayne was a hero to me, and so many others. Long live Wayne Harrett, and long live Seaside FM.
