Nova Scotia Radio Stations Holding Controversial Contest – Compete To Get “Knocked Up” & Win Cash

Update: Radio Stations Cancel Contest Where Entrants Required To “Pee On A Stick” Then Attempt To Get “Knocked Up”

When BJ and the Q Morning Crew take to the morning airwaves in Nova Scotia on Halifax’s Q104 and Pictou County’s Q97.9 chances are they’ll shock you with something. The Nova Scotia radio shock jocks are launching a new contest and a lot of the internet is appalled.

The contest dubbed, “Baby Grand” was announced on Q97.9’s Facebook Page this morning and is sponsored by the adult store, Pleasures N’ Treasures.

The post reads “The best thing about kids? Making them! Q Nation, it’s time to get frisky with the Mighty Q’s Baby Grand!” the post is pretty tame until this point.

Where it gets controversial is the radio station will pick four couples, one from each of their stations, to “come in and pee on a stick” to show you’re not pregnant. “First one knocked up nabs a THOUSAND BUCKS! Pretty easy, wha?”

In Canada, roughly 1 in 6 couples experience infertility.

Couples who have suffered from infertility and who have struggled to get pregnant are commenting on the station’s post and making it clear, they believe this crosses a line.

“The best thing about having a kid? Having the joy of having said kid.” commented Aleisha MacLeod-Smith. “Many people are or have struggled to build their family and this ‘contest’ isn’t funny. I realize you guys like to tow the line when it comes to ‘humorous’ contests, but this is a step too far. Cancel this and apologize.”

“I have to say as someone who struggles with infertility, this really shocked me. Making a joke or a contest on pregnancy and fertility is so wrong.” commented Dria Babineau. “I’m definitely not a snowflake person, I’m not easily offended, but this really rocked me. As a person who has spent thousands to get pregnant, had surgeries, put my body through absolute hell, lost 4 babies in the past 16 months, there were days that seeing this would have sent me over the edge. I am positive there are many women/couples that this would devastate this morning. There are so many other ways to run a contest, this one is just trash in my opinion, and would be extremely damaging to people’s mental health in the middle of their Fertility journey.”

The contrasting opinion is some people think it is funny.

We have reached out to parent company Stingray for comment and will provide an update when received.
