Thousands gathered on Halifax’s Spring Garden Road marching and kneeling in solidarity with those protesting across The United States in the wake of George Floyd’s death.
Floyd was a black American who died after being taken down by police in Minneapolis.
The crowd took to one knee on Halifax’s busiest pedestrian thoroughfare for almost nine minutes, the amount of time Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck. Chauvin is now charged with third degree murder and manslaughter.
The peaceful protest on Spring Garden Road saw those in attendance chanting in solidarity, “I can’t breath” and “no justice, no peace.”
