Environment Canada has issued wind and rainfall warnings for most of Nova Scotia.
Very strong southerly winds are forecast for Thursday beginning in the morning and lasting through the evening. Maximum gusts are forecast to reach 90 to 100 km/h. A Les Suêtes wind warning is in place for northern Inverness County where gusts could reach 140 km/h.
“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur.” says Environment Canada. “High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.”
Nova Scotia Power is encouraging its customers to keep the utility’s information close as winds pick up on Thursday.
A rainfall warning is in place for almost all of Nova Scotia except for northern Inverness County. A brief period of snow could occur before changing to rain. Rainfall amounts of 20 – 50 mm are forecast with possible higher amounts along the Atlantic Coast.
