The Marine Animal Response Society (MARS) says on Thursday evening they received a report of adead, floating whale in the approaches of Halifax Harbour.
According to the Society, they located the deceased whale on Friday morning with the assistance of the mariner who made the initial report. The animal turned out to be a small, male humpback whale. Samples of the mammal were taken.

The whale couldn’t be brought ashore before low-tide to determine the cause of death and the body drifted off. MARS is hoping that the whale can be located again so they can conduct a necropsy to determine how the animal died.
