Halifax City Council voted Wednesday evening to cancel the weekly collection of green bins in the summer months of July, August and September. City Hall axed the weekly pick-up in an effort to cut costs because of revenue lost due to COVID-19.
Citizens will continue to put their carts on the curb bi-weekly as they do now.
The city has also cancelled most civic events, weed harvesting in Lake Banook and tree planting.
City council also agreed on a motion to have have staff consider placing $33 million back into the budget by dipping into the cities rainy day fund and increased borrowing.
