New Report Shows Driving In Halifax Has Decreased 68%

A report issued by Apple today has shared mobility trends in cities and countries since COVID-19 began affecting people across the world. It suggests that driving has decreased a staggering 68% in Halifax.

The mobility report shows statistics on driving, walking and transit use. Haligonians are doing less of all three. Walking has decreased 69% and transit use is the winner of them all decreasing 89%.

A recent spike in walking and driving could be attributed to people preparing and travelling for the long weekend we just had, when we should have been stayin’ the blazes home.

Halifax Data Chart:

The data shows Halifax slightly beats the national average in the reduction of all three categories.

“Apple today released a mobility data trends tool from Apple Maps to support the impactful work happening around the globe to mitigate the spread of COVID-19,” said a statement from the company.

“This mobility data may provide helpful insights to local governments and health authorities and may also be used as a foundation for new public policies by showing the change in volume of people driving, walking or taking public transit in their communities.”
