There Are Early Signs Of Possible Community Spread In Multiple Areas

Nova Scotia’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Robert Strang, is encouraging people in the following communities to get either an asymptomatic or symptomatic test for COVID-19. This is due to Public Health being unable to clearly identify the source of infection in numerous COVID-19 clusters.

“Anyone who lives in these communities should get a COVID test weather they have symptoms or not.”

The clusters of COVID-19 infections are in the Sackville, Halifax, Dartmouth and Lawrencetown areas. Investigations are on going.

You can book your COVID-19 test online here.

“While I do not want to create panic in anyone, we do need people to pay attention. This increase in COVID-19 activity is a warning sign.” said Dr. Strang.

Nova Scotia has also increased travel restrictions on those entering the province. Effective April 22 at 8:00am, people from outside Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador will not be allowed to enter Nova Scotia.  They will only be permitted if their travel is essential or they are permanent residents of Nova Scotia.

In today’s COVID-19 update, Dr. Strang told of a situation where there was an event held in a community and people from Ontario who failed to isolate attended. Nova Scotians were knowingly around them.

“This is not the time for people to come to Nova Scotia for anything other than essential travel,” said Premier Rankin.
