Environment Canada has issued Special Weather Statements ahead of what will be significant rain, wind and a flash freeze. Wind Warnings are already in place for Cumberland County.

“Showers and strong southwesterly winds will transition to periods of heavy rain early Friday morning ahead of a cold front.” says the statement. “Localized flooding is likely with heavy rain falling on the frozen snow covered ground. The public is advised to clear storm drains in advance of this system if possible to mitigate this risk.”
The government department is says to expect total rainfall of 25-50 mm with higher local amounts possible. In addition to the rain, strong southwesterly winds will further intensify Thursday night into midday Friday leading to power outages. Maximum wind gusts will be 80-100 km/h.
Flash Freeze
By Friday afternoon we will see a significant drop in temperatures far below zero from west to east. A brief period of freezing rain may occur before a transition to flurries as the system exits. Water on roadways and walkways will quickly freeze creating hazardous travel conditions.
Conditions are expected to improve Friday evening.
