The Rockwool Canada Sail Grand Prix kicked off in Halifax with crowds filling the piers and boardwalks to support the hometown favorite, Canada. The event marked the first time SailGP visited Canada, and the strong winds provided fans with an exciting day of racing.
The challenging conditions resulted in three different race winners, with no team emerging as the dominant force. Spain claimed victory in the first race, finishing ahead of France and Emirates GBR. However, Spain’s performance declined in the following races, finishing fourth in race two and eighth in race three.
ROCKWOOL DEN dominated the second race, finishing more than 10 seconds ahead of New Zealand. In the final race of the day, Australia bounced back from a poor start, securing a win over Emirates GBR and Canada after finishing eighth and sixth in the earlier races.
The Canadian team, led by Phil Robertson, delighted the home crowd despite a seventh-place finish in the opening race. They achieved two third-place finishes, putting them in strong contention for a podium finish. With 20 points, they are currently tied with Spain.
Racing gets underway Sunday at about 4:00 PM Atlantic.
