Pictou County RCMP, Little Harbour and New Glasgow Fire Departments along with EHS responded to a 911 call of swimmers in distress on Little Harbour Road at Melmerby Beach.
RCMP learned a woman became in distress while attempting to rescue a man in the water. Bystanders assisted and brought both to shore and administered first aid.
A 57-year-old Halifax man was transported to hospital by EHS where he was pronounced deceased. A 64-year-old Halifax woman, who suffered serious injuries was transported to hospital by EHS.
The investigation is ongoing and being assisted by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office.
