There is now one less reason to visit Access Nova Scotia. Nova Scotians are now able to take their driver licence knowledge test online. The new service is bilingual and introduced today, October 21. It provides a more convenient option to get a learner’s licence.

The Motor Vehicle Act’s regulations require everyone to successfully complete a knowledge test to obtain their learner’s driver licence or their commercial driver licence. About 40,000 tests are completed each year and 90% are for a learner’s driver licences.

“We are introducing another digital service to make it easier and more convenient for Nova Scotians to access government programs,” said Colton LeBlanc, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services.

“The new service means Nova Scotians can complete the driver licence knowledge test at their convenience and from the comfort of their home.”

Before the new digital service was launched, assessments were conducted to ensure all appropriate security controls were in place. There are also anti-fraud features to protect the integrity of the test.

The online test needs to be completed on a device that has a camera to capture the applicant during testing.

The fee to complete the test in person or online is $15.15. You can take the test here.
