Escaped Inmate Charged With Robbing Bank In Greenwood While Running From The Law

Kings District RCMP say they have charged Ryan Taylor Wilband, who was unlawfully at large from the Central Nova Correctional Facility, with robbery after a suspect produced a knife and demanded money at a bank in Greenwood.

RCMP say on August 23 around noon, Kings District RCMP responded to a report of an armed robbery at a bank on Central Avenue in Greenwood. The suspect was provided with cash then fled the area on foot.

While investigating, RCMP say they were made aware that the same man had allegedly been at a restaurant on Pickering Lane in Greenwood and failed to pay for their meal.

At approximately 1:20 p.m., RCMP say they located and safely arrested the suspect on Laurentian Place in Kingston. During a search of the suspect, incidental to arrest, officers located cash that had been obtained in the robbery. He spent the night in RCMP cells in New Minas.

Ryan Taylor Wilband, 43, of Greenwood, has been charged with the following:

  • Robbery;
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose;
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime;
  • Theft under $5,000

Wilband appeared in Kentville Provincial Court today and was remanded into custody.
