Christmas Display Was Source Of A Laser Pointed Into Cockpit Of Aircraft Landing At Halifax Stanfield Airport

Halifax District RCMP say they have identified the source of a laser light that was pointed into the cockpit of a flight that was preparing to land at Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

The incident occurred on January 2, 2023 at about 6:50am. Pilots observed a green laser in the flight deck and reported the incident to air traffic control. It was believed the laser had been pointed from an area near a golf course on Old Guysborough Road.

Halifax District RCMP were contacted by concerned citizens who learned of the incident. The residents live near the airfield and reported that their holiday laser projector had blown over on the property and was pointing directly at the sky.

RCMP believe this was the source of the laser that appeared in the flightdeck and there was no intention to aim at the approaching aircraft.
