Environment Canada is telling residents of northern and eastern mainland Nova Scotia along with Cape Breton Island that they should be prepared for a significant freezing rain event beginning Friday morning and lasting through the evening.
“A wintery mix of precipitation is expected to spread across the province Thursday night into Friday morning.” says the Special Weather Statement. “Much of Nova Scotia will see a transition from snow and ice pellets to freezing rain and then rain before precipitation ends Friday evening. Areas of northern and eastern Nova Scotia could see a prolonged period of freezing rain on Friday.”
Residents are reminded that in the past, similar systems have caused hazardous transportation conditions and utility outages.
Environment Canada says additional details will be provided as the system draws closer to our province.
