Halifax Regional Police say they have referred an an incident involving the discharge of a service weapon that occurred Saturday evening to the Nova Scotia Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT).
A 59-year-old man is deceased, and SIRT is investigating the incident.
This evening, at approximately 8:35 PM, Halifax Regional Police say they responded to a weapons call involving a male armed with a firearm and contained the residence.
Police say the suspect barricaded himself in the residence on Carleton Street in Dartmouth and while they attempted to arrest the man, he confronted officers with a weapon and an officer discharged a service weapon.
The male was found deceased in the residence.
Halifax Regional Police have referred all further questions to SIRT while the investigation is ongoing.
