Stores are running out of hand sanitizer, but if you’re worried about keeping clean and germ free during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak here is a recipe for homemade hand sanitizer. It’s called soap and water.
It’s best not to attempt to make homemade hand sanitizer as it can be downright dangerous for you. People in the know are warning that it is difficult to get the proper alcohol content.
“I worry about people making their own sanitizer as it will be difficult to make sure that the concentrations are correct,” says Daniel Parker, assistant professor of public health at the University of California, Irvine”
Store bought sanitizer also has elements such as moisturizers to protect your hands against the alcohol. If you don’t have these in in your homemade sanitizer, you are putting your hands at risk.
Our conclusion, wash your hands with soap and water properly. Here is how the Centers For Disease Control says to do it:
- Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
- Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
- Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
- Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
- Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.
