The Halifax Mooseheads have been sold. Bobby Smith, former Halifax Mooseheads majority owner announced the sale this morning at the Halifax Convention Centre.
The team has been purchased by Simon Sports of Birmingham, Michigan, an investment and management group. It is the umbrella company for Sam Simon and his son Peter’s sports ventures.
Simon Sports says both Sam and Peter have shared a dream of one day owning a sports team, and today that lifelong goal has been fulfilled.
“The excitement for the journey ahead cannot be any higher, and the two of them are committed to working with the community of Halifax, the amazing fans, and the incredible Mooseheads team to fully support and improve in every aspect possible.” said Simon Sports.
“The Moosehead staff are wonderful and poised for even more success as we work together, and the city of Halifax is beautiful.” said Simon. “We will be supporting and giving our 100% commitment to improve every aspect of the Mooseheads; from the team and coaching staff, to the fans and their gameday experience, and the Halifax community at large. The Mooseheads have wonderful fans and an incredible history of developing NHL greats. My family and I are so excited to enter this new chapter of building great teams and meaningful community partnerships.”
“Halifax is the best place in the world to have a junior hockey team.” said Bobby Smith.
Smith gave a thoughtful speech and thanked many people who over the years have made the Mooseheads a success.
