The internet is furious at Bell Media, the owners of CTV News after cancelling chief news anchor, Lisa LaFlamme’s contract.
Notable former employees of Bell Media in Nova Scotia including meteorologist Cindy Day and journalist, Priya Sam have taken to Twitter.
“Lisa is an incredible journalist and a role model for so many girls and women.” said Sam “It’s no secret in the industry that Bellmedia treats women horribly but this a new low even for them.”
Cindy Day said that one of her followers “hit the nail on the head” when they tweeted at her saying “My feeling is YOU got the shaft from CTV yourself. Could the male hierarchy in media be feeling intimidated by smarter women?”
Priya Sam brought attention to the #BellLetsTalk campaign retweeting someone who said Bell Media has no business trying to raise money for mental health, especially when they’re the leading cause of emotional distress to their own employees.
Lisa LaFlamme says she was “blindsided” when Bell Media ended her contract at CTV News after more than 30 years. She says she was told it was a “business decision”.
In a news release, CTV said its decision to end LaFlamme’s contract was because of “changing viewer habits.” They also announced Omar Sachedina, who joined the network in 2009, would take over as chief news anchor.
