Uber Is Raising Its Prices In Halifax And Across Canada To Better Reflect Their Driver’s Gas Expenses

Whether you’re catching a ride downtown, to the airport or ordering takeout for delivery, Uber is raising its prices across Canada. This means if you’re an Uber user in Halifax you will be charged an additional fee to better reflect the extra expenses drivers are incurring due to the soaring cost of gasoline.

Gas prices have reached an all time high in Nova Scotia during the recent weeks before falling back slightly last Friday.

“This recent increase is impacting drivers and deliverers more than others. In order to reduce this impact, we are introducing a temporary fuel surcharge,” Uber Canada said.

Beginning March 16, the trip in an Uber will have a $0.50 cent surcharge included. When it comes to Uber Eats, hungry customers will be charged and extra $0.35 on their order.

According to Uber, the fees are temporary, but will be around for at least 60 days. One hundred percent of the fee will go towards the driver’s increased expenses.

“In the long term, Uber continues to encourage drivers and deliverers to switch to electric vehicles,” Uber Canada said. “We have set a goal of having 100% of trips made via the platform worldwide be zero-emission by 2040. In Montreal, we aim to achieve this goal by 2030.”

Uber Canada says they will monitor the price of gas and adjust the fee if necessary.
