Ben Proudfoot of Halifax, NS is no stranger to the red carpet. He will be returning this year to the 94th Academy Awards where he is one of the favourites in his category. Proudfoot is nominated for Best Documentary (Short Subject) for his latest work, The Queen of Basketball. He was also nominated in 2021 in the same category for, A Concerto is a Conversation.
Lusia (Lucy) Harris, although many have not heard of her, was one of the greatest woman basketball players. She won three national trophies and scored the first basket in women’s Olympic basketball at the 1976 Olympics. One of the most interesting facts about Lucy is she was drafted to the NBA and still not many people know of her.

Lusia Harris, the basketball pioneer, died January 18, 2022. Her death was said to have left Halifax’s Proudfoot in shock. His documentary brought the life of Lucy Harris to the forefront.
The documentary moved Shaquille O’Neal so much that he contacted Proudfoot to come onto the project as an Executive Producer.
Lusia lived long enough to hear Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts call her a hero and for Shaq to dub her the “Greatest Of All Time”
Thanks to Halifax’s Proudfoot, her story will live on.
