The forecasted winter storm is bringing a messy mix of snowfall, ice pellets, freezing rain and rain to Nova Scotia. It is forecast to last into the early morning of Saturday with a changeover to flurries.
As of 6:30PM there are just over 35,000 Nova Scotia Power customers without service, mainly due to freezing rain. Nova Scotia Power says their crews will work around the clock to reconnect customers.

Canada Post issued a rare red alert and cancelled mail delivery in Nova Scotia for the day.
Freezing rain has been falling just outside of Downtown Halifax and Dartmouth. Areas of Lower Sackville, Middle Sackville, Hammonds Plains and Fall River have been where the freezing rain accumulated in the Halifax area. Freezing rain will move into peninsular Halifax and Dartmouth this evening.

Although there are no power outages in the area, Northern Nova Scotia has received a significant amount of ice pellets and snow today.
