Be Prepared: Hurricane Isaias Has Formed – Nova Scotia Could Be In It’s Path

Tropical Storm Isaias strengthened overnight and is now a Category 1 hurricane. It has maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h.

It is becoming more likely that Isaias will affect Nova Scotia at some point around the middle of next week.

It is too early to predict how much affect Isaias will have on Nova Scotia, but you are advised to monitor the development and track of Isaias in the coming days.

Hurricane Isaias’s predicted track as of 6:00am, July 31, 2020 (Canadian Hurricane Centre)

The Canadian Hurricane Centre has advised people living in hurricane prone areas to prepare early this year. With new regulations in place regarding capacities and social distancing this could affect your ability to prepare with short notice.

Bob Robichaud, Warning Preparedness Meteorologist with the Canadian Hurricane Centre, says to expect 13 – 19 named storms this hurricane season.

Six to ten of these storms are predicted to be hurricanes. Three to six of these are predicted to become major hurricanes.
