Cirque du Soleil’s enchanting arena show, “Corteo,” is coming to Halifax for the first time. The show will be at the Scotiabank Centre for six performances from Thursday, June 6 to Sunday, June 9, 2024.
Cirque du Soleil is one of the world’s largest and most famous circus companies. Known for its breathtaking performances and creative shows, it has captivated millions of people globally. Some of its most well-known productions include “O,” a water-themed show in Las Vegas, and “The Beatles LOVE,” a tribute to the music of The Beatles.
“Corteo,” which means “cortege” in Italian, is a festive parade imagined by a clown. The show combines the acting skills of the performers with the grace and strength of acrobats, creating a theatrical world full of fun and spontaneity. The story is about a clown who imagines his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by caring angels. The show mixes the large with the small, the ridiculous with the tragic, and the magic of perfection with the charm of imperfection.
Directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, “Corteo” premiered in Montreal in April 2005. Since then, it has been seen by over 10 million people in 22 countries across four continents. This month, the show celebrates its 1000th arena performance. The show is presented by Sun Life Global Investments.
