Former Central Nova Member of Parliament and Nova Scotia born, Peter MacKay has lost the leadership race for the Conservative Party of Canada to Erin O’Toole.

After a delay of several hours, MacKay took a narrow lead after the first ballot but a path to victory for him wouldn’t come. He would lose on the third ballot to O’Toole.

O’Toole defeated MacKay, Leslyn Lewis and Derek Sloan after a months long campaign that took place during the pandemic.

O’Toole will lead the Conservative Party into the next federal election.
