The Halifax Regional Municipality has advised residents that Kinap Beach in Porter’s Lake is closed to swimming until further notice due to high bacteria levels in the water. The supervised beach was scheduled to open tomorrow, July 1.
HRM staff test the water quality at all supervised beaches as well as two unsupervised beaches during the summer months. The recent results at Kinap Beach indicate higher bacteria levels than Health Canada allows for swimming. This can be caused by a number of reasons, including dogs, birds, wildlife, and high temperatures.
Staff will continue testing until bacteria levels return to safe levels. Residents will be advised when the beach opens.
