Nova Scotia’s shoreline is a popular destination for residents and visitors to visit on warm sunny days. Unfortunately, beaches close to swimming occasionally because of bacteria in the water.
This afternoon, the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service closed popular Rainbow Haven Beach near Cole Harbour to swimming. The reason being, there is too much enterococci bacteria in the water.
The beach is tested twice per summer and during the most recent test, it returned a level of enterococci that was too high.
It will take at least 48 hours to have the water retested to ensure the safety of those swimming. In the meantime, you will have to find another beach if the Atlantic Ocean is your cup of tea.
