U-Haul has released a report of Canadian cities that saw the most growth in 2022 based on the number of one-way trips booked with their vehicles throughout the year.
The company calls it the U-Haul Growth index. It uses transactional data to outline the cities and provinces that see the most new residents.
There were over 2 million one-way U-Haul trips in Canada last year. The index calculates the net gain or loss of one-way U-Haul trucks and vans arriving in a province or city compared to those departing.
The Maritimes have been a top destination for people across Canada looking for affordable housing and a relaxed lifestyle according to Devin Mitchell, U-Haul Company of Atlantic Canada president.
“The lack of affordable real estate in other provinces is pushing people east.” said Mitchell.
Sydney, Nova Scotia placed within the top 10 cities in Canada that people re-located to on U-Haul’s index. Also note, U-Haul says Truro Nova Scotia just missed out on making the list!
