All public servants including teachers, government staff and healthcare employees who travel internationally, including The United States, must self-isolate for 14 days upon return. Public servants will be paid while in self-isolation. Public school students who travel internationally will be asked to self-isolate unless they are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Residents have been calling looking for information and  tying up resources.

The government is also promoting social distancing and asking organizations to limit gatherings to 150 people.

Cruise ships with capacities larger than 500 have been barred from docking in Canada until July 1.  That affects 40 vessels scheduled to visit Halifax and 22 that were scheduled to visit Sydney

Premier McNeil said, “If we have the virus on a cruise ship that lands in our port, the last thing we need to do is put added stress onto a system that we are currently working hard to ensure that we can deal with it when it (COVID-19) arrives, the way we believe it will, to one of our citizens.”

Nova Scotia Teacher’s Union President, Paul Wozney, told the Rick Howe Show on News 95.7 this morning that the Union would like to see the March Break extended to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to keep the students and teachers healthy.

There is no change to the public school schedule as of yet, but work is being done to ramp up online learning with a focus on grade 12 to ensure students can graduate on time.
