The Province of Nova Scotia says more healthcare services will soon be available in pharmacies.
Appointments open tomorrow, February 1 for The Community Pharmacy Care Clinics program. It is being trialed at 12 pharmacies across the province with more locations expected this spring.
Pharmacists in these clinics have dedicated time to see patients with common illnesses and people who are on medications for chronic diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular and lung disease.
Pharmacies in the pilot program will receive added funding for assessing and prescribing 31 minor ailments including minor muscle and joint pain, eczema, cold sores and heartburn. They will provide care for strep throat, including testing, diagnosis and treatment, something that had not been available previously.
The complete list of services and information on booking appointments is available at: https://pans.ns.ca/cppcc.
All pharmacies across Nova Scotia already provide no cost assessment and treatment for uncomplicated urinary tract infections, shingles, contraception, Lyme disease and prescription renewals.
