Mattea Roach revealed on Twitter there was a delay that kept her from receiving her Jeopardy! winnings.
Contestants receive their Jeopardy! prize money in a cheque. Mattea’s tweet revealed that after receiving her cheque, the bank wouldn’t release her money for 15 days. According to Roach, the issue was it was large sum in a foreign currency. A cheque typically clears in less than seven days and depending on the issuer of the cheque, that is sometimes waved.
not only was the cheque not small enough for mobile deposit, the bank held it for FIFTEEN business days because it was “a large amount of money in a foreign currency” 💀 (also congrats on getting your prize money!! I hope you’re celebrating accordingly)

We don’t know about you, but that bank representative must not have been a Jeopardy! fan or in-tune with the news, because Mattea’s name was everywhere and an entire country was behind her. Many people online replied to Mattea saying they were surprised the bank would hold a cheque deposited by her, especially from the game show Jeopardy!
Mattea didn’t reveal when she received the cheque, which can arrive as long as 90 days after your final appearance according to past contestants. Mattea also noted and joked her cheque was too large for mobile deposit. We hope her 15 day hold has past and she’s now enjoying her winnings!
