It was supposed to be a celebration on the field and in the stands as the Halifax Wanderers played their 100th match in club history. It was anything but when the game ended with apparent chaos in one of the sections and a season ticket holder being forcibly removed by security staff.

Fans took to social media to voice their displeasure with what they saw take place at the game.

Nova Scotia Buzz spoke with multiple season ticket holders in the section who didn’t want to be identified, but stated that the fan removed was a member of the Ultra 108 fan base, named after the section they sit in. The fan had reportedly displayed a sign that read “You quit, we quit” and may have been told earlier to put it away by security staff.

The fans Nova Scotia Buzz spoke with said he melee broke out when the sign came back after the match and security once again asked for it to be put away.

Nova Scotia Buzz was told fans chanted “This is our club” and were ordered to disperse by security. When that didn’t happen, reported pushing and shoving began between fans and security.

“The club is speaking with everyone involved today and will be able to provide further comment following those conversations.” said Ryan Brandt, Communications Manager for the Halifax Wanderers when reached for comment.

The popular Halifax ReTales Twitter account tweeted at The Halifax Wanderers and club founder and President Derek Martin saying, “While the sign was dumb, censorship enforced with excessive brutality is inexcusable.”

The local company that manages security at the Halifax Wanderers’ matches is Shadow Security.

“We are meeting with the club and the local support groups which were involved, later today.” said Nate Martin, Director of Operations for Shadow Security. “We are going to share more information following the meeting. I will say however, the fan was not removed due to the sign.”

The Wanderers 100th match ended in a 0-0 draw against Calgary’s Cavalry FC.
