Six hundred and forty people with Nova Scotia addresses reportedly donated to the Freedom Convoy via fundraising platform GiveSendGo. Nova Scotia Buzz cannot verify that all reside in the province.
The data was released on GiveSendGo’s website after it was hacked and appears to list the names, postal codes, e-mail addresses and messages of support from over 90,000 donations.
Of the 640 supposed donations linked to Nova Scotia postal codes, a reported total of $57,413 was donated.
Nova Scotia Buzz cannot independently verify if the names on the list did in fact donate to the freedom convoy, but they include messages of support including: “When my next pension check come I will send more.” “Go truckers from Cape Breton Island.” “HONK.” “Freedom can not be stopped by commies.”
Three of the largest reported donations from Nova Scotia were listed at $2,000, $1,600 and there were two donations of $1,000.
Nova Scotia’s contributions were relatively small compared to some of the larger donations including one connected to a New Brunswick businessman who donated $75,000 and an American Silicon Valley entrepreneur and investor who donated $90,000.
According to the leaked documents, over $8 million was donated via GiveSendGo including millions of dollars from Americans and people located in other countries.
