Christmas Storm: Environment Canada Just Took A Page From Frankie MacDonald’s Book And Tweeted #BePrepared

Nova Scotia’s favourite amateur weatherman, Frankie MacDonald is known for his famous saying “Be Prepared” when it comes to storms and it sounds like Environment Canada agrees with the Cape Bretoner.

Environment Canada tweeted out a list of weather warnings in place across Nova Scotia and added a hashtag to alert Nova Scotians to #BePrepared.

Colours blanket the weather map with the whole province under Wind and Rainfall Warnings.

Environment Canada is warning of wind gusts near 100 km/h beginning in western Nova Scotia Friday afternoon and reaching Cape Breton by midnight.

“High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.” says Environment Canada.

Most of Nova Scotia will see rainfall from 20 mm to 40 mm with higher local amounts. Rain will begin over western areas Friday morning and reach Cape Breton by evening. Rain will end Friday overnight and in Cape Breton it’s forecast to stop Saturday morning.

Powerful storm surge is a possibility along the south facing shorelines of the Atlantic Coast of Nova Scotia including Cape Breton late Friday into Saturday. The main threat will be during Saturday’s high tide..

“Very large waves, storm surge and a run of spring tides have the potential to produce high water levels for late Friday and into Saturday.” says Environment Canada.

Nova Scotia Emergency Management Office is also urging Nova Scotian’s to prepare for power outages and to have emergency kits ready.
