Canadian Heroes from New Glasgow And Truro Confirmed Missing In Cyclone Crash Off Greece

The Canadian Armed Forces have confirmed the identities of the six crew members who were on board the Cyclone helicopter that crashed in the sea off Greece. The crew was participating in NATO’s Operation Reassurance.

The Prime Minister and Chief of the Defence Staff, Gen. Jonathan Vance, confirmed the death of sailor, Sub-Lt. Abbigail Cowbrough. Originally of Toronto, Ontario, she was living in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Missing from Nova Scotia are Capt. Brenden Ian MacDonald, a Pilot originally from New Glasgow and Sub-Lt. Matthew Pyke, a Naval Weapons Officer originally from Truro.

The Canadian Armed Forces have confirmed the identities of the five missing crew members:

  •  Capt. Brenden Ian MacDonald from New Glasgow, N.S.
  •  Capt. Kevin Hagen from Nanaimo, B.C.
  •  Capt. Maxime Miron-Morin, from Trois-Rivieres, Que.
  •  Sub-Lt. Matthew Pyke from Truro, N.S.
  •  Master Cpl. Matthew Cousins from Guelph, Ont.

The crew of HMCS Fredericton, other NATO ships and helicopters continue to search for the five service members.
