Tittle Bridge, in Guysborough County has collapsed. Contractors were moving equipment on the site when the accident occurred today, July 7. One worker required transport to hospital for observation.
Tittle Bridge is a steel truss bridge leading to Durrell’s Island, near Canso. Residents are being provided assistance by the local fire department on an emergency basis. The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal is working to re-establish permanent access to the island.
The bridge was scheduled to be replaced this summer. Alva Construction was awarded the tender and was working on the beginning stages when the incident occurred.
The cause of the incident has not been determined. The Department of Labour and Advanced Education has been notified.
