An escalating wildfire, still uncontrollable, has now engulfed approximately 1354 hectares, more than 3,000 acres of land around Barrington Lake in Shelburne County, Nova Scotia. Extreme hot, dry, and windy conditions continue to challenge firefighting efforts.

As of now, a total of 35 DNRR (Department of Natural Resources and Renewables) firefighters are on the scene, along with 50 volunteer firefighters, an incident management team, heavy-duty equipment, two helicopters, and six air tankers provided by New Brunswick.

Due to the potential threat to safety, officials have shut down Highway 103 from exit 28 to 29. One remote cabin has already been lost to the wildfire, with the status of two others currently unknown. Volunteer firefighters are working to protect remaining structures in the path of the fire.

RCMP, the Red Cross, Ground Search and Rescue teams, and the Emergency Management Office are actively assisting with the evacuation of residents and any potential evacuees.

Officials say power transmission may become interrupted in the area.

In a move to prevent further fires, campfires in all provincial parks in western Nova Scotia have been officially banned until further notice.

Stay tuned for an update later this evening as the situation continues to unfold.
