Some In Nova Scotia Asked To Postpone Non-Essential Travel As Storm Nears – Warnings In Place

Environment Canada has issued Winter Storm Warnings for most of Nova Scotia. Snowfall amounts of 20-40 cm are expected in the areas outlined below. Wind gusts of 80-90 km/h are expected to make travel treacherous.

People in areas under the Winter Storm Warnings are being advised to postpone non-essential travel.

“Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.” says Environment Canada. “Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.”

  • Annapolis County
  • Antigonish County
  • Colchester County
  • Cumberland County
  • Digby County
  • Hants County
  • Inverness County
  • Kings County
  • Pictou County
  • Victoria County

Environment Canada has issued a Snowfall Warnings for the areas of Halifax County West and along the South Shore.

The government department says Friday morning precipitation will begin as snow, with a changeover to rain for many areas along the Atlantic coast. Any rain will change back to snow Friday evening as winds increase out of the northwest and colder air moves in. Blowing snow is not expected until Friday night in this area as temperatures will be above freezing for much of the event.
