Sigh… Most Prices To Rise Monday At The NSLC – On The Bright Side, Cannabis Prices Will Drop

The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC) conducts price reviews each spring and fall in consultation with their suppliers.

Some products go up in price and believe it or not, some actually come down. Over the past five years, increases have been in the range of 1%, but last year the consumer price index rose 4.7%.

“The approach this fiscal year is different due to the rising cost of doing business during the pandemic.” said Beverley Ware, Media Relations Manager for the NSLC. “Suppliers have told us they have seen increases in costs for everything from raw goods to packaging and shipping. At the NSLC, we also have seen an increase in our costs, including excise taxes, freight costs, and fluctuations in the foreign exchange.”

Starting Monday March 28, NSLC shoppers will see on average 3.5% increase in the price of their purchases. One of the larger increases will be in the price of beer which is seeing an increase of 3.96%.

Some products will actually decrease in price, that includes most cannabis the NSLC sells. That product category will see a drop in price by 2.7%.
