The concept is you borrow a hotspot for a set amount of time and then return it to the library like you would a book.
The hotspot connects to the internet via cellular signal and provides the user unlimited data for their browsing or streaming needs. You must be 18 years+ to borrow a device and most libraries are offering 4 week loans.
Libraries that have hotspot devices for loan, or will very soon, include:
Annapolis Valley Regional Library
Cape Breton Regional Library
Colchester East-Hants Library
Cumberland Public Libraries (Amherst)
Eastern Counties Regional Library (Mulgrave)
Pictou – Antigonish Library
South Shore Public Library
Western Counties Regional Library (Yarmouth)
Community Technology Nova Scotia says most of the devices were distributed to libraries only this week and have already logged 1,500 hours of usage across the province.
Funding for the WIFI hotspots is provided through Federal and Provincial Government grants.
